“Because of Sam” Screening

Tampa, FL (March 14, 2023) – The City of Saint Petersburg is sponsoring a screening of “Because of Sam” on March 21, 2023 at 2 pm. The inspirational documentary film chronicles the life of Tampa’s Sam Piazza who was born with Down syndrome, won Homecoming King, works at PDQ and is an inspiration to all who know him.

The film shows how Piazza overcame bullying, is an advocate for people with disabilities, and that ‘because of Sam’ many lives have been made better.

City of Tampa Mayor Jane Castor says, “… congratulations on this important documentary… it will certainly inspire others to be accepting, encouraging, and inclusive of everyone.”

Piazza’s family, friends, WWE Superstar Titus O’Neil, PDQ Co-Founder Bob Basham, and representatives from GiGi’s Playhouse, are among the many individuals and organizations featured in the film that is now part of a workforce training program that teaches empathy and inclusion.

“Because of Sam” was produced and directed by award-winning filmmaker, Tampa native, and University of South Florida alumna Renee Warmack, who will join Piazza for a post-film Audience Q and A.
