Join GiGi’s Kitchen, an adaptive teen kitchen class is part of the GiGi’s Playhouse programming, offering a supportive environment where teens (ages 13-17) of all abilities can develop essential cooking skills, gain independence, and enjoy the shared experience of preparing and enjoying food together.
About GiGi’s Kitchen
GiGi’s Kitchen programs emphasize the importance of a healthy lifestyle and provide early exposure to practical cooking skills.
Under the guidance of trained program leaders, participants engage in hands-on activities that support the development of healthy eating habits, kitchen safety awareness, food preparation skills, self-confidence, and social interaction. Each session allows participants to apply their knowledge while preparing and enjoying a shared meal or snack.
Program Goals
GiGi’s Kitchen promotes healthy eating habits by encouraging a positive relationship with food, an understanding of balanced nutrition, and recognition of hunger cues and other body signals.
It increases kitchen safety awareness through practice in safe food handling and identification of common kitchen hazards to prevent accidents and injuries.
The program strengthens food preparation skills, with an emphasis on the fine motor, cognitive, math, and literacy abilities needed to follow recipes, measure ingredients, and use kitchen tools.
Participants build self-confidence and social skills by taking responsibility, practicing good manners, and engaging in meaningful peer interactions during shared meals and clean-up.
The overall goal is to enhance quality of life by helping participants carry their skills into daily routines, build lasting relationships, and adopt healthy lifestyle habits.
