Independent Living Skills Class

This Independent Living Skills Class is hosted by the Disability Achievement Center.

The Independent Living Skills class at the Disability Achievement Center is designed to empower adults with disabilities to increase their independence, build confidence, and navigate daily life with greater ease. Through interactive lessons, practical skill-building, and peer discussion, participants learn strategies that promote self-reliance and community engagement.

Who Should Attend
This class is intended for adults with physical, sensory, cognitive, or developmental disabilities who are looking to strengthen their independence at home, at work, and in social settings. Family members or caregivers may be invited to attend select sessions depending on the curriculum.

What the Class Covers
Participants will explore key areas of daily living, including personal care, cooking and kitchen safety, laundry, and household management. Financial literacy is also a focus, covering topics like budgeting, paying bills, and using a bank account. Additional lessons include how to use public transportation, navigate community resources, maintain personal health, and prepare for emergencies. Social and communication skills are built through group activities and role-play exercises.
