HUG's Mystery Musical

Solving the ultimate life-sized game of Clue with your best friends? Check.

It’s not every day that an elaborate Whodunnit production makes its way to Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater, Florida…. but when it does, HUG is so there.

130 HUG Friends arrived at the theatre to witness the most thrilling show in town, complete with tickets in hand and complimentary-of-HUG concession funds gifted upon entry. Everyone took turns picking out their goodies of choice; then, they received pencils and Clue slip cards for notetaking before making their way to the auditorium upon opening hour.

HUG friends in wheelchairs, power chairs, and those with other mobility devices were easily and immediately accommodated thanks to Ruth Eckerd Hall’s commitment to accessibility.

Everyone got comfy, and settled in to see their favorite game board characters come to life on stage.

All of a sudden, piano keys began to ripple from the stage corner, the lights dimmed, and on either side of the audience seating, groups of performers appeared, making their way on to the stage, executing perfectly paired dance choreography and song.

None other than Professor Plum, Mr. Green, Ms. Scarlett, Colonel Mustard, the Butler, and many more made themselves known.

The HUG friends did a double-take when they realized that Ms. White and her company on stage were not the HUG couple, Cassandra and John, who could be found dressed to the nines in the HUG audience as their very own Clue character renditions.

A narrator’s voice rang out over the action on stage and incorporated the audience into the show from the start. This narrator, “Mr.Body”, encouraged viewers to follow clues and introduced each of the beloved Clue characters as they became actively involved throughout the performance…. up until the narrator became victim to one of the Clue character suspects, that is.

By the end of the show, the logic puzzle clues were pieced together and the HUG friends were able to see just who may have been the guilty suspect.

As song and dance broke out, the guilty party was revealed! Many friends collectively gasped, looked at each other, and exclaimed, “I knew it!”.

The HUG Team asked around to see who solved the mystery in time, and was not surprised to discover that most did before the clues concluded.

Seriously, nothing ever gets past the HUG friends.

Following the show, the audience members filed out, excitedly discussing the sequence of events that just took place before their very eyes.

What a thrilling rush of evening excitement, and an important reminder that all communities belong in public spaces made for enjoyment!
