Synchrony Arts Productions is in its the fifth season of productions. We adapt popular Broadway/movie shows to our unique renditions of music theater. The cast is an all-adult ensemble of people with various special needs, ranging from high functioning autism to TBI, to Downs Syndrome. Needless to say, there is a wide breadth of physical and vocal abilities. Most cast members reside in group home settings, some with family, and just a few in independent living. There is no cost for the cast members. All operating costs generate from ticket sales and donations (often subsidized or fronted by our own pockets).
Rehearsals typically run one day a week from February/March to August, then often twice weekly during the month of September. We have one formal performance season per year, usually in October, staging 1-2 dress rehearsals, 2 public night performances, and a Sunday matinee. We also stage an encore dinner theater performance 1-2 weeks following the theater performances. In the past two years, we’ve performed a brief reprise at The Family Cafe gathering in Orlando in June.
All are welcome to participate. We determine some lead roles based on verbal ability and willingness. Although each cast member has a unique role and plenty of stage time. We do require a participation packet to be completed, which remains confidentially filed. Our main requirement is that the cast is dedicated throughout, especially as we assign roles and get closer to performance time. Of course, noting that personal and other events (i.e.; Special Olympics) may take precedence at times.
