Beauty and the Beast Performance – Penguin Project

Penguin Project is a theater program for children and young adults with special needs. Each year, Penguin Project produces a junior length musical. Each role is performed by a child or young adult with special needs. In 2019, Penguin Project produced Aladdin Jr, in 2020, we produced Peter Pan Jr., and in 2022, we produced Mary Poppins Jr.

The cornerstone of the Penguin Project are the peer mentors. Each young artist is matched with a peer mentor who works with the young artist through the entire production process. Although the peer mentor is responsible for knowing his/her young artists’ lines, choreography, music, and blocking, the peer mentor is there to encourage the young artist and build a friendship that lasts beyond the final curtain.
